ON BLOGGER SINCE JULY 2003

So I am older than flickr, twitter, facebook and youtube. Collectively, I'd say we have done pretty well.

ON EARTH SINCE JANUARY 1973

So I am older than Betamax and the Heimlich Maneuver. I'd say we've all kind of choked.

HERE AT LONG LAST IS MY YEAR IN REVIEW

January 1 – We sort of just sat around all day. Naya said how much she liked Tree of Life, so we watched Super 8. Went for a run. Went shopping at Grocery Outlet which apparently rings a massive dinner bell if you save over $100. Received congratulations from the guy standing behind us in line. Felt prouder than I have a right to. Ended a sentence with a preposition.

January 2 – Rearranged the living room and dining room. Rode the stationary bike. Developed a new monthly budget.

2012 YEAR IN REVIEW: C-

Oh, that Tree of Life thing. I make fun of the things I love, and oh man I had the best zinger for that film, but it felt disingenuous because no sooner had it ended that I was weepy and wanting to watch it again. And I made some stupid Game of Thrones joke, but no sooner did I finish a Dance with Dragons that I just started reading the whole series over again. I must have made fun of drunks at some point over the weekend, too, because someone went through a quarter bottle of Jack Daniels and he's still sleeping in my bed!

FROM HERE ON OUT

Serene as snow. Steady as the tide. I broke a long engagement with careless spontaneity in 2011 and tried to be a more soothing presence for my family, frightened by the regrets I projected onto an imagined father. It was a terrible failure, but it showed such promise that I think I'll double down and settle into responsibility this final year of my 30s. I will be a soft mist and coat the morning grass and lift for an hour every afternoon while the neighborhood children bounce through puddles before dinner.

You say steady, I say unrelenting. Either way, happy day of birth.

My review of "Tree of Life" was "What a beautiful turd of a film."

My review here is "What a beautiful turd of a blog post. I can't believe somebody would willingly watch 'Super 8!' It is so obviously the Spielbergian Apocalypse predicted by 'The Goonies' back in 1985." Now, had you watched "Captain America" instead, your 2012 Year in Review could have been a B... B+ even.

we wrestled with captain america but every time i watch a superhero flick i have flashbacks to terrible times in pajama decision making.

On Blogger, on Twitter, on Facebook and LinkedIn; on YouTube, on Google on Netflix... and Blitzen.

Whatever. The world is ending soon, and watching Super 8 is as good a way to mourn its passing as any.

If you are working through Game of Thrones then it's entirely possible you're going to outpace me for total volume of sci-fi/fantasy consumed (LIFETIME) pretty soon so I guess I'd best up my game. REAMDE, here I come. Soon.

Happy Birthday when it turns up!

You've got almost 2 years more of blogger on me, but I've never taken a hiatus. You've also got 9 months on Earth over me, but that assumes it existed before me. And how can this be? For he is the Kw...

No, wait, sorry. Off track there. ;)
